The five-part mini-series begins this December.
By Colin Stevens Killmonger, the infamous Black Panther villain portrayed by Michael B. Jordan in the 2018 film adaptation, is receiving his own Marvel Comics series that charts his rise to power.
Reported by Vulture, this five-part mini-series is simply called Killmonger and will follow the story of how a Wakandan called N’ Jadaka (later known as Erik Killmonger) was exiled to the United States, transforming from a promising young mind into a dangerous super villain. Though Killmonger has been around since the ‘70s, this will mark the first time the character helmed his own series.
Killmonger is being written by Bryan Edward Hill, known for writing the On the Outside Batman story arc, with art from Juan Ferreyra, who previously worked on various Green Arrow comics.

"It’s a story of a guy who was failed a lot by Wakanda in certain ways, by the people he met outside of Wakanda, by his own conscience in other ways, and I wanted to paint a portrait of that,” said Hill in an interview with Vulture. "Because to me the iconic fight between Erik Killmonger and T’Challa is tragic. It’s something that shouldn’t happen. It’s a conflict that’s borne from a tragic misunderstanding and a young man who was violently taken from his home."
Hill promises the series will feature revenge, Wakandan spiritualism, and new dimensions for Killmonger. The story begins with Killmonger graduating from MIT and having to choose between a promising life and revenge, and it eventually brings him back to Wakanda. "It’s about a fall of a person that should have been something much better than what he wound up being, and the story is about how he winds up in that place,” said Hill.

Though not necessarily narratively attached to the MCU, Hill took some inspiration from Killmonger’s backstory from the Black Panther film, such as his “being a soldier in his own cause” and his fear and anger being used as justification for his violent actions.
Killmonger #1, the first of five parts, goes on sale Wednesday, December 5.
